East Riddlesden Hall Relaxed Wedding | Laura & Tom
Weddings like Laura and Tom’s are exactly why I love what I do. It had been a few years since I last photographed a wedding at East Riddlesden Hall in West Yorkshire, and coming back reminded me straight away why it’s such an incredible place to get married. East Riddlesden Hall is one of those venues that manages to feel both historic and relaxed at the same time. The beautiful barn, peaceful gardens and surrounding water features create an atmosphere that feels intimate and welcoming rather than overly formal. It’s the perfect venue for couples who want their wedding day to feel personal, fun and full of genuine moments. From the moment guests arrived you could feel the excitement building throughout the day. Laura and Tom had created a wedding that reflected them perfectly. It was relaxed, full of personality and filled with little touches that made the whole celebration feel unique to them. As a West Yorkshire wedding photographer, these are exactly the kind of weddings I love capturing. A brilliant group of people, a relaxed atmosphere and a couple who are completely present with their friends and family from start to finish.
A Beautiful Setting at East Riddlesden Hall
The ceremony took place inside the beautiful Airedale Barn at East Riddlesden Hall, which always has such an incredible atmosphere for weddings. The rustic wooden beams and historic character of the barn create a space that feels both cosy and special at the same time. Laura looked amazing in her dress from Ava Rose Hamilton, with her hair styled by Jess Gibbs Hair. The overall look was elegant while still feeling relaxed and natural, which suited the whole feel of the day perfectly. The venue was filled with stunning floral arrangements by Berries Florist Skipton, adding colour and texture throughout the barn and tying everything together beautifully. Ceremonies at East Riddlesden Hall always feel incredibly personal. The space allows couples to create something that reflects who they are, whether that’s through readings, personal vows or simply the atmosphere created by being surrounded by the people they care about most. When Laura walked down the aisle you could feel the emotion in the room immediately. Moments like this are some of my favourites to photograph because they are completely genuine. The reactions from family, friends and the couple themselves tell the real story of the day.
Why East Riddlesden Hall is Such a Special Wedding Venue
One of the things that makes an East Riddlesden Hall wedding so special is the variety of spaces the venue offers throughout the day. Set within beautiful grounds in West Yorkshire, the venue combines historic architecture with a relaxed countryside feel. The manor house itself dates back centuries and is full of character, while the surrounding gardens and water features create stunning backdrops for photographs. As a wedding photographer, venues like this are a dream to work at because every corner offers something unique. Whether it’s the rustic charm of the barn, the greenery of the gardens or the peaceful waterside paths, there are endless opportunities for natural and relaxed photographs throughout the day. For couples planning a West Yorkshire wedding, East Riddlesden Hall offers that perfect balance of history, charm and flexibility that allows them to create a day that truly feels like their own.
Personal Touches Throughout the Day
One of the things that made Laura and Tom’s wedding stand out was just how many personal touches they had included throughout the day. One detail I absolutely loved were the Animal Crossing ribbons tied to the ceremony chairs, which immediately stood out. It’s always great when couples bring little bits of their personalities into the day like this. But the real labour of love had to be the napkins. Laura and her sister took on the massive task of sewing and embroidering around 120 napkins themselves using fabric sourced from Vinted, charity shops and their own stash. It was an incredible amount of work but the finished result looked amazing and added such a unique and creative detail to the tables. The styling throughout the day was beautifully brought together with help from Grace Styled Events and stationery from Typical Type, which helped tie everything together perfectly..
Exploring the Grounds for Wedding Photos
One of the things I always look forward to when photographing an East Riddlesden Hall wedding is spending some time exploring the grounds for portraits. The gardens and waterside paths around the venue provide some incredible backdrops for photographs while still keeping everything within a short walk of the barn and reception space. After the ceremony we took a relaxed wander through the grounds to capture some portraits of Laura and Tom together. One of my favourite spots at East Riddlesden Hall is the path that runs alongside the water. The reflections, greenery and soft light create such a peaceful setting for photographs. The great thing about this venue is that couples don’t need to disappear for long periods of time to get great photos. We can step away for ten minutes, capture some beautiful portraits and then head straight back to the celebrations. That approach fits perfectly with how I photograph weddings. I want couples to enjoy their day rather than feeling like they’re constantly being pulled away for photos.
Incredible Food and an Amazing Atmosphere
Of course, great weddings are always helped along by great food. The catering for the day was provided by The Outside Kitchen, who kept guests very happy with some incredible food throughout the celebrations. With the sunshine making an appearance, guests were able to enjoy the gardens and soak up the relaxed atmosphere that East Riddlesden Hall creates so well. There was a constant buzz of conversation, laughter and people catching up throughout the afternoon, which honestly felt incredible from start to finish.
Relaxed Wedding Photography at East Riddlesden Hall
My approach to wedding photography is always centred around capturing genuine moments as they unfold naturally. Rather than constantly directing or posing people, I aim to blend into the day and document the moments that happen organically. The laughter during speeches, the hugs between family members and the moments where couples simply take in everything around them. East Riddlesden Hall is perfect for this style of photography because the venue encourages guests to relax and enjoy themselves. There is plenty of space for people to spread out, chat in the gardens and enjoy the day at their own pace. These moments often lead to the most meaningful photographs. Laura and Tom’s wedding was full of moments like this. Friends chatting outside the barn, guests enjoying drinks in the sunshine and family members catching up throughout the day. These are the moments that really tell the story of a wedding.
Capturing the Day
I had the pleasure of photographing the day alongside Simpson Photography, which meant we were able to capture even more moments from different angles throughout the celebrations. The day was also beautifully filmed by Films by Billy, who created a lovely video of the day. Working alongside such a great team of suppliers always helps the day run smoothly, and this was one of those weddings where everything just came together effortlessly. A Perfect East Riddlesden Hall Wedding. Laura and Tom’s wedding at East Riddlesden Hall in West Yorkshire was one of those days that just felt effortless from start to finish. Great people, an incredible venue, brilliant suppliers and a couple who were fully present in every moment of the day. It’s exactly the kind of wedding I love photographing.
Golden Hour at East Riddlesden Hall
One of the most magical times to photograph a wedding at East Riddlesden Hall is during golden hour. As the sun begins to set over the West Yorkshire countryside, the light softens and creates the most beautiful glow across the gardens. We stepped outside for a few minutes during the evening to capture a few portraits while the light was perfect. These moments are always special because couples finally get a chance to pause for a moment together after the excitement of the day. The soft evening light, the peaceful grounds and the historic surroundings of East Riddlesden Hall created the perfect setting.
