Social Humber Street Wedding | Amy & Callum’s Rock & Roll Wedding in Hull
Amy and Callum’s wedding at Social on Humber Street in Hull was one of those weddings that perfectly sums up why I love photographing alternative weddings so much.
It was colourful, loud, creative and completely unapologetic about doing things their own way. From DIY details to a packed dance floor and even a chippy tea in the evening, the entire day felt more like an incredible celebration with their favourite people than a traditional wedding.
And honestly, those are always the best weddings to photograph.
A Colourful Rock & Roll Wedding at Social Humber Street
Amy and Callum’s wedding at Social Humber Street was bursting with personality from start to finish. Music played a huge part in the vibe of the day, which felt very fitting for the venue itself. The whole celebration had this amazing rock and roll energy running through it, with loads of colourful styling and fun details throughout the space. Amy designed and created all of the signage and stationery herself which made the whole wedding feel incredibly personal. From welcome signs to the little details dotted around the venue, you could tell how much thought and creativity had gone into making the day feel like them. There were loads of brilliant little touches throughout the day too. Guests could grab stick on tattoos, there were music themed decorations everywhere and at one point I even spotted a Louis Theroux candle which gave me a good laugh. These kinds of personality driven weddings are always my favourites to photograph because every moment feels unique.
Why Social Humber Street Is Such a Great Wedding Venue in Hull
Social on Humber Street is one of the coolest wedding venues in Hull, especially for couples who want something relaxed and a little different. The venue has a really creative, laid back atmosphere that works perfectly for alternative weddings. It gives couples the freedom to make the space their own while still feeling intimate and full of character. But the real magic for photographers is the location. Humber Street is packed with amazing backdrops for wedding photos. Within just a few minutes walk you have:
Industrial Style Shutters
Colourful street art
Historic cobbled streets
Views across Hull Marina
Loads of cool textures and doorways
It means we can quickly sneak out for some couple portraits without taking couples away from their guests for long. Amy and Callum absolutely smashed their photos and Humber Street gave us so many great spots to work with.
A Venue That Means a Lot to Me
Photographing weddings at Social Humber Street is always a little special for me personally. Before focusing fully on weddings, I spent years photographing gigs and live music around Hull. Back then the venue was called Fruit, and it was one of the main places I used to shoot bands and live music. So every time I photograph a wedding at Social now, it feels like coming full circle. It’s pretty amazing seeing a venue that used to be part of my music photography days now hosting incredible weddings like Amy and Callum’s.
Tattoos, Music and One Very Full Dance Floor
Amy and Callum’s wedding had such a fun energy running through the entire day. From the tattoo station to all the music inspired details around the venue, everything felt relaxed and completely focused on celebrating with their favourite people. As the evening rolled around the dance floor absolutely exploded. Everyone was up dancing, laughing and fully in the moment which is always my favourite part of a wedding to photograph. These are the moments where people completely forget the camera is there and just enjoy themselves. Also a special shout out to the evening food because chippy tea at a wedding is always an elite decision.
Alternative Weddings in Hull
Amy and Callum’s wedding is exactly the kind of wedding that reminds me why I love documentary wedding photography. No rigid traditions. No pressure to pose all day. Just a celebration full of real moments, laughter and people having an amazing time. My approach is always about capturing weddings naturally while couples actually get to enjoy their day. If you’re planning a wedding at Social Humber Street or anywhere in Hull and want relaxed, documentary style photography that captures the real atmosphere of the day, I’d love to hear about your plans.
